A LETTER FROM OUR PRESIDENT

Woodstock Little League

State of the Union

Dear Kids, Parents, Members of the Volunteer Core, distinguished guests and fellow Woodstock Community Businesses and Supporters,

Today I would like to begin by congratulating the men and women of the 2011 WLL Board, as well as our new chair from the Woodstock American Legion Post 1026, Anthony LaJoie Jr. Please welcome Tony and more so, the community commitment that Woodstock Little League attracts.

It's no secret that those of us here have had differences over the last couple of years. The debates have been contentious; we have fought fiercely for our beliefs. And that's a good thing. That's what a robust organization demands. That's what helps set us apart as a successful Little League organization.

There's a reason the tragedy in Tucson gave us pause. Amid all the noise and passion and rancor of our public debate, Tucson reminded us that no matter who we are or where we come from, each of us is a part of something greater. We are part of the American family. We believe that in a country where every race and faith and point of view can be found, we are still bound together as one people; that we share common hopes and a common creed; that the dreams of Christina Green in Tucson are not so different than those of our own children, and that they all deserve the chance to be fulfilled.

I believe we must work together. One organization cannot be operated by a handful of personnel. Operation of this organization is a shared responsibility between organizers and parents alike. We will move forward together, or not at all. Parents must step up and contribute.

We are poised for progress. Two years after the worst recession, WLL has raised more money for improvements than most of us have ever known. We will continue to improve field conditions and provide more instruction than ever before for the kids.

The year ahead holds many surprises that will provide the memories of a life time for you and your children. If you don't believe me, please come to Old Timers day on June 12th and listen to the stories about little league 50 years ago. Those baseball memories have not been forgotten. And don't bother bringing an apple pie for the contest, because my mom's apple pie is the best. The winner of the best apple pie this year will win a $1000 vaction package.

Sincerely
Kevin Christofora
